Guwahati: While addressing a presser, state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that from tomorrow, India will begin with the world's largest vaccination drive to fight against Coronavirus.

At present there are 1656 active covid cases in Assam with recovery rate at 98.49%. Assam will too participate in the vaccination drive.

India will be administering Covishield and CoVaxin for the people and are safe for use. The vaccination drive will undertake in three phases. In the first phase covid warriors that is the medical staff will be given the covid vaccine. While in the second phase, armed forces and security personal will receive the covid doses.

People above 50 years of age and with critical ailments will receive the covid vaccine in the third phase.

A total of 65 vaccination centres have been set up to administer the covid vaccine from tomorrow. A total of 1.9 lakh people in Assam will get covid vaccine doses. Total 33 districts will be covered in Assam under the vaccination drive.

Ones willing to take CoVaxin will have to give a written declaration before taking the vaccine. While no such rule needs to be followed for ones taking Covishield. The vaccines will be administered twice. After taking the first vaccine, the second will be administered after 24 days.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the India's vaccination drive tomorrow at 10:30 am.

At least 2.9 lakh vaccine doses will be given free of cost. Later, if need arises then the cost of the vaccination shall be borne from Arogya Nidhi account by the government.
