Among those arrested are Raju Dutta, president of the Kalibari Jagriti Sangha Puja Committee, and Ramen Datuwa, along with six others.

However, the three prime accused - Shankar Rao, Ratul Bora and Sujit Sarkar - are still absconding.

Police have received information that the trio is hiding in Meghalaya. According to the authorities, the culprits destroyed CCTV evidence from the crime scene.

The shocking incident took place on Vijaya Dashami at the Durga Puja pandal of Kalibari Jagriti Sangha Puja Committee in Bamunimaidan's Railway Colony.

The victim, 26-year-old Avinash Rajak, had requested the organisers to play songs by Zubeen Garg while dancing at the pandal.

This led to a heated altercation, during which Avinash was brutally assaulted by a group of 20-25 youths led by Sujit Sarkar and Ratul Bora.

Following the incident, Avinash's family filed an FIR at Chandmari police station. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation.
