    Spiritual leader Dalai Lama expresses grief and donates Rs 10 lakh for flood relief in Assam
    The Tibetan spiritual guru resented the fact that monsoon rains wreak havoc yearly.

    Digital Desk: The Dalai Lama, Tibet's Buddhist monk, extended a helping hand by donating Rs 10 lakh to flood relief management in Assam; he also expressed his sorrow over the devastation caused by the catastrophe.

    In a letter to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, he expressed gratitude that the agencies involved are doing everything possible to rescue and assist those affected.

    The letter further reads - "As a mark of my solidarity with the people of Assam, I am donating Rs 10,00,000 from the Gaden Phodrang Trust of the Dalai Lama to support these agencies," he also added saying the chief minister in the letter, "I would like to express my sadness about the hardship caused to so many people in your state due to the recent floods. I offer my deep condolences to you, the families who have lost loved ones, and everyone affected by the flooding." 

    According to the Dalai Lama, flooding has resulted in extensive loss of life and property displacement of millions of people over the last week, and he also expressed regret that monsoon rains in Assam and other parts of the country wreak havoc year after year.

    Showing gratitude to The Dalai Lama, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked him by tweeting him back, "Assam is humbly feeling blessed at His Holiness @DalaiLama expressing concerns at ravaging floods in Assam and hardships it is causing. He has graciously sent his blessings."

    As per the chief minister's tweet, the state government is grateful to the Gaden Phodrang Trust for the donation.

    The state is in the grip of a devastating flood, with 54.50 lakh people affected and 101 people killed so far this year.
