Digital Desk: On Sunday, the Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) organized statewide public memorials to honor the beloved artist and “Voice of Assam,” Zubeen Garg.

In a press statement, AJYCP president Palash Changmai and general secretary Bijon Bayan said that the ceremonies began with interfaith prayers in memory of their former associate and the people’s artist, Zubeen Garg.

In all cities and towns and sub-divisions of Assam, AJYCP district committees held memorial programs with Naam-Prasanga, Dihanaam, and other traditional rituals. The portraits of Zubeen were hung along the roads and other public places and this gave a sorrowful mood of collective memory.

According to the leaders of the AJYCP, people of Assam have yet to come to terms with the untimely death of Zubeen Garg and called it an emotional loss to every Assamese. They pointed out that until the truth about the mysterious death of the artist is available, the people need to fight as one and be on the lookout in seeking to get the truth behind the mysterious death of the artist.

The organization also reported that the behaviors of the state government in the investigation are under observation by the citizens. Remarking the current work of Special Investigation Team (SIT), the leaders were worried that the ongoing procedure was not enough to guarantee full justice. They urged authorities to accelerate the judicial proceedings under Soumitra Saikia’s supervision.

AJYCP extended heartfelt thanks to district commissioners, police superintendents, civil society members, and citizens across Assam for their presence and cooperation in making the statewide memorials a solemn tribute to Zubeen Garg.
