Digital Desk: Assam's young prodigy, Kyusenghan Phukan, has made history as the youngest swimmer globally to conquer one of the most challenging and perilous sea routes in the Arabian Sea.


At just 7 years old, Kyusenghan achieved this extraordinary feat on Wednesday by swimming from Elephanta Island to the Gateway of India in Mumbai. This perilous 12-kilometer stretch, known for its unpredictable waters, was completed in an impressive time of 3 hours and 29 minutes, cementing her place in history.


Her achievement is particularly significant as she becomes the first female swimmer from Northeast India to achieve this remarkable feat, bringing immense pride to Assam.


Kyusenghan started her swim at 2:36 pm from Elephanta Island and reached the Gateway of India at 6:05 pm, showcasing incredible determination and skill.


Hailing from Holouguri in the Charaideo district, Kyusenghan is the daughter of Hemanga Phukan and Rimli Hazarika Phukan. The family currently resides in Six Mile, Guwahati.


Under the expert guidance of coach Babul Gurung at the Dr. Zakir Hussain Aquatic Complex within the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex in Sarusajai, Guwahati, Kyusenghan has been honing her swimming abilities.


Her incredible achievement has sparked celebrations within the Assam Swimming Association. Bhaskar Das, the association's secretary, extended heartfelt congratulations to the young swimmer for her unparalleled success.


Adding to the accolades, Assam Sports Minister Nandita Garlosa also congratulated Kyusenghan on her record-breaking swim.


The minister celebrated her success by sharing a photograph of the young champion on her social media platform, expressing pride in her historic achievement.
