Oberoi’s wife, Simarjot Kaur, had contested last year’s municipal corporation elections on an AAP ticket
Digital Desk: An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) functionary, Lucky Oberoi, was shot dead early Thursday morning outside a gurdwara in the upscale Model Town area of Punjab’s Jalandhar city.
According to preliminary police reports, Oberoi was sitting inside his Thar vehicle when unidentified assailants opened fire on him at close range. He sustained multiple bullet injuries and was rushed to a private hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police said at least two attackers arrived at the spot on a scooter and fired several rounds at Oberoi around 7.55 am, shortly after he had exited the gurdwara. Oberoi reportedly suffered five gunshot wounds.
Oberoi’s wife, Simarjot Kaur, had contested last year’s municipal corporation elections on an AAP ticket.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining CCTV footage from the area. Officers were questioning local residents and shopkeepers, while teams reviewed nearby CCTV footage in an effort to trace the attackers and reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the killing.
