Digital Desk: On the evening of August 9, 2023, one active cadre of ULFA (I) was caught in Tirap district during a big operation launched by the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles in collaboration with Arunachal Pradesh police.

According to reliable sources, the Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Tirap police, started an operation in the late hours of August 9. The security forces collaborated to gather accurate information to begin a search operation in the border settlement of Noglo. The search party blocked off the suspected location where the cadre was resting.

The cadre was entirely caught off guard and had no time to flee or oppose arrest. The cadre had crossed the Indo-Myanmar border in an attempt to reach Assam and carry out subversive actions.

However, Self-styled Private Aparajit Nath alias Pankaj Asom has been recognised as the apprehended cadre. The man is from Basbari, Assam, and was recruited into the prohibited faction last year.

The apprehension of these cadres comes at a crucial time when the country is preparing to celebrate its 76th Independence Day this month. In this year alone, there have been numerous apprehensions and surrenders of ULFA (I) cadres in the TCL region of Arunachal Pradesh, which has dealt a serious blow to the activities and hierarchy of the banned outfit.
