The state-of-the-art national badminton centre, a collaboration between the Assam Government and BAI, will be inaugurated on Friday...

Digital Desk: The Assam government will be launching the Badminton Association of India (BAI) National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati on August 11 in pursuit of sports excellence and the development of local talent.

The Amingaon Indoor Stadium will house the Centre, which will have a world-class infrastructure, highly experienced national and international coaches, and first-rate support facilities.

The state-of-the-art national badminton centre, a collaboration between the Assam Government and BAI, will be inaugurated on Friday in the presence of the country's badminton elite.

The Sports and Youth Welfare Department of Assam will handle the operation and management, while the Badminton Association of India will handle the technical aspects.

BAI's aspiring project will include 24 badminton courts with seating for about 5,000 spectators. With hundreds of courts under one roof, the BAI Centre of Excellence will be the largest in the country.

To commemorate the momentous event, the Indian men's badminton team, which won the Thomas Cup in 2022, would be honoured by BAI president and Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Centre of Excellence will additionally identify and prepare local and national talent from the foundation level.

Additionally, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced earlier this month that the state government will sign a memorandum of understanding with the Badminton Association of India to establish a National Centre of Excellence for Badminton in the state.

On August 3, CM Sarma announced through Twitter that the MoU will be valid for ten years and will be extended for another ten years.
