The police officer stated that the theft could have been motivated by the skyrocketing prices of vegetables.

Digital Desk: Amid price rise, fruits and vegetables appear to have become so lucrative that thieves allegedly fled with 60kg lemons, 40kg onions, and 38kg garlic from a warehouse in Shajahanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

The incident has piqued the interest of local police at the Tilhar police station, who have stated that they are looking into it.

"We received a call from a green grocer reporting theft of lemons, onions, and garlic," said Umesh Singh Solanki, inspector of Tilhar police station.

The incident was reported to police on Monday by the owner of green grocer, Manoj Kashyap. Reportedly, the alleged theft happened after the owner closed his shop at Bajariya Sabzi Mandi on Sunday night and stored the vegetables in a warehouse.

Kashyap, a resident of Bahadurganj Mohalla, reported to the police that 60kg of lemons, 48kg of onions, and 38 kg of garlic had gone missing from the warehouse and the premises' lock had been found open. Other items were also missing from the warehouse, he claimed.

Solanki said that the theft could have been motivated by the skyrocketing prices of vegetables. Notably, the price of lemon is currently around 280 per kg.

The police officer also stated that the shop owner has yet to file a formal police complaint about the incident.
