The Apple iPhone 13 is also manufactured locally at the Foxconn factory in Tamil Nadu. Is that a sign that the iPhone's price will drop?

Digital Desk: Apple has started assembling iPhone 13 in India at the Foxconn plant in Tamil Nadu. The move could help Apple save on import duties and keep control over supplies. It comes after the government introduced a production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme that promotes the manufacturing of smartphones in the country.

"We're excited to start making iPhone 13 right here in India for our local customers," Apple said. "With its beautiful design, advanced camera systems for stunning photos and videos, and the incredible performance of the A15 Bionic chip, we're excited to begin making iPhone 13 right here in India for our local customers."

Apple has previously stated that "over the last year, the number of suppliers committed to using 100 per cent renewable energy has more than doubled." In India, eleven Apple supplier sites have pledged to use only renewable energy.

Want to know the price of the Apple iPhone 13 in India?

The iPhone 13 is presently available in India for Rs 79,900 for the 128GB model and Rs 89,900 for the 256GB model. While the decision to produce devices domestically is expected to save Apple up to 20% on import tariffs, it is unclear whether this will lower the price of iPhone 13 versions in India for customers.

Apple also has a globally pricing strategy that is unlikely to influence a country's local manufacturing. All we have to do now is wait and watch if the prices are changed.
