The Major received injuries to his hands and head and fainted, while the attackers fled the scene.

Digital Desk: An Army Major and his team of 16 soldiers were reportedly assaulted by the owner and workers of a roadside eatery (dhaba) on the Manali-Ropar road in Punjab. Four people have been taken into custody by the police, including the manager and owner of the restaurant, and they are still looking for further attackers.

After winning the Snow Marathon in Lahaul the day before, Major Sachin Singh Kuntal of the Ladakh Scouts and his soldiers were returning from Manali on Monday when the incident took place.

According to the police, at approximately 9.15 p.m., the soldiers stopped for dinner at the "Alpine dhaba" close to Bharatgarh in the Ropar district. When the proprietor allegedly insisted on cash payment rather than using UPI to settle the food bill to avoid paying taxes, an argument erupted between them.

A gang of thirty to thirty-five individuals attacked the officer and other jawans as the argument continued to worsen even after the soldiers had paid the bill online. Sticks and iron rods were allegedly used to beat and punch them.

The Major received injuries to his hands and head and fainted, while the attackers fled the scene.
