Digital Desk: Eighteen OTT sites, including Uncut Adda, Dreams Films, and Prime Play, have been banned by the central government's Ministry of Information & Broadcasting for hosting 'obscene and vulgar' and even pornographic content, even after several warnings. Notably, India has prohibited public access to 19 websites, 10 applications, and 57 social media profiles connected to these OTT platform services.

Because the OTT platforms appear to have violated Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, Section 292 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and Sections 67 and 67A of the Information Technology Act, they have been prohibited.

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting stated, "A significant portion of the content hosted on these platforms was found to be obscene, vulgar, and portrayed women in a demeaning manner," as justification for the OTT platform ban. It showed nudity and sexual behaviors in a variety of unsuitable settings, including incestuous familial relationships and relationships between teachers and students.

"The content included sexual innuendos and, in some instances, prolonged segments of pornographic and sexually explicit scenes devoid of any thematic or societal relevance.." the I&B Ministry wrote.

The union government discussed the popularity of these OTT apps, stating that two of them had received over 50 lakh downloads from the Google Play Store, and one app had received over 1 crore downloads. In the meantime, over 32 lakh individuals followed these OTT services' social media accounts cumulatively.

Twelve Facebook accounts, seventeen Instagram accounts, sixteen X (previously Twitter) accounts, and twelve YouTube profiles are no longer accessible, according to a government statement from the I&B ministry.
