  • A sudden flash flood in Arunachal Pradesh's Keyi Panyor district has resulted in one fatality and left four individuals unaccounted for, prompting a multi-agency rescue operation involving the Indian Air Force and state disaster teams

A devastating flash flood, triggered by relentless overnight rainfall, has claimed at least one life and left four people missing in Arunachal Pradesh's Keyi Panyor district. The incident, which occurred in the Yachuli area, has also caused injuries to 17 individuals, three of whom are in critical condition, necessitating a large-scale rescue operation that includes the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The calamity struck the Poosa area, situated near a North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) project under Yazali Circle. Heavy downpours led to the collapse of an under-construction retaining wall, unleashing a torrent of water and debris into residential quarters within the NEEPCO colony. Authorities confirmed one fatality, while intensive search operations are underway to locate the four individuals who remain untraced.

Among the injured, three sustained severe wounds and have been transferred to the Gyati Takka District Hospital in Ziro for specialized medical attention. Rescue teams, comprising the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and district administration personnel, are battling challenging conditions. Continuous rainfall, fresh landslides, and significant damage to crucial road networks are severely impeding efforts to reach affected areas and expedite the search for the missing.

As the region continues to grapple with adverse weather, the focus remains on locating the missing persons and providing aid to those affected. The joint efforts by various agencies highlight the severity of the situation and the immediate need for comprehensive disaster response in the remote district.
