A final decision on the hosting of the Asia Cup 2023 will be taken on the sidelines of the IPL final...

Digital Desk: A final decision on the hosting of the Asia Cup 2023 will be taken on the sidelines of the IPL final, which will be attended by several top Asian Cricket Council (ACC) dignitaries, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said on Thursday.

"The respective presidents of the Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka Cricket Boards will attend the IPL 2023 final, which will be held on May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. We will hold discussions with them to outline the future course of action in relation to the Asia Cup 2023," Shah said.

Bilateral cricket has been hampered as a result of India and Pakistan's strained political relations over the last decade, and the two nations currently only play each other in multi-team events at neutral venues.

India has ruled out travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup in September, citing safety concerns, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has offered to let them play their matches in the United Arab Emirates in a "hybrid model."

While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to respond formally to the offer, Shah stated that India would like the entire tournament to be moved out of Pakistan.

This might have significant consequences for the 50-over World Cup in India this year, as well as the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan, he noted.
