Digital Desk: MS Dhoni's anticipated IPL swansong in Ahmedabad will not happen as the CSK skipper could be banned for intentionally wasting time with umpires during Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2023 against GT. Dhoni, who has already been penalized for a code of conduct breach due to a slow rate, can now be banned to play in the IPL final on May 28 at Narendra Modi Stadium. During the GT's final few overs of the run chase, the CSK captain was seen arguing with umpires, resulting in a four-minute delay.

The incident occurred during the 16th over of the innings, when Matheesha Pathirana was not permitted to bowl his second over. The Sri Lankan pacer had exited the pitch after a nine-minute break. When he returned to bowl, the umpires halted and spoke with Dhoni about Pathirana not finishing the allotted time on the pitch after the break.

Dhoni had a five-minute disagreement that did not impress broadcasters Sunil Gavaskar and Simon Doull. "That five-minute argument he had with the umpires was unnecessary. All he did was stop the game instead of letting another bowler bowl. He might come to regret it at the end of the match," Simon Doull said on air.

While it is unclear till now whether umpires will take action against Dhoni for generating unnecessary delay. If the officials find him guilty, the CSK captain might face a fine or ban.

Speaking about the GT vs CSK clash, Dhoni and Co defeated the Titans by 15 runs to advance to the final of the IPL 2023 season. CSK will be making their tenth final appearance. Dhoni has previously led in all nine matches, winning four and losing five. CSK will have a four-day rest before the grand final on May 28.
