Digital Desk: The Government of Assam has extended the declaration of "Disturbed Area" status for four districts of the state in a recent notification dated March 27, 2024.
In response to concerns regarding the activity of a militant organization in the regions of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, and Charaideo, this decision was made by Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958.
Beginning on September 27, 2023, the initial declaration was slated to end on March 31, 2024. But the decision to keep the area classified as a "Disturbed Area" was approved, according to a report that the Assam Police Headquarters had filed and suggestions that the Assam government had then made to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Following due consideration, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that, as of April 1, 2024, the "status quo" regarding the "Disturbed Areas" in Assam would be maintained for an extra six months.
As a result, the government of Assam has formally designated the districts named above as "Disturbed Areas" for an additional six months, starting on April 1, 2024.
The government's commitment to addressing security issues and ensuring the security and welfare of residents in these areas has been proven by this decision.
