Digital Desk: A woman was mentally and physically harassed by her husband, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, and her in-laws in Tezpur, Assam's Sonitpur district, for being unable to conceive, according to reports.
The BJP leader has been identified as Parash Bhuyan, who is accused of torturing his wife because she is unable to conceive a child.
The victim, Brinta Saikia Bhuyan, stated that her husband and in-laws had been physically and mentally torturing her for several years since she couldn't conceive. Despite living under the same roof, she was forced to sleep in a different room from her husband, make her own lunch and dinner separately, and was tortured whenever she asked her husband for money for survival.
She further said that despite approaching the police multiple times, she received no help.
"Whenever I try to reach the police, my husband shows self-confidence that he is a member of the BJP and I cannot harm him," the victim informed reporters.
