Digital Desk: Assam cabinet on Monday approved the establishment of the National Forensic Sciences University in the state's capital, Guwahati.

The National Forensic Sciences University was among the projects that Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced during his two-day visit to Assam in May.

Senior cabinet minister Jayanta Mallabaruah stated, "The University will operate temporarily on the premises of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). The state's government has been looking for a suitable site to build the University."

The University was established to boost Assam's forensic capabilities and produce a trained workforce in the field of forensic science. There are two other campuses in Delhi and Gujarat.

"The University will start soon, which will add additional muscle to the state's home department's security mechanism," he added.

In addition, the cabinet has adopted a climate change action plan for the state for the years 2020-2030, as well as extended benefits for the state's economically weaker sections.
