The most accomplished boxer from India, Mary Kom made the decision to focus on the CWG and skip the World Championships (May 8–20).   

Digital Desk: Boxer MC Mary Kom, a six-time world champion, underwent reconstructive surgery on her left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on Tuesday. The veteran boxer injured her ACL during the opening minutes of her 48 kg match at the Commonwealth Games selection trials in June after twisting her knee.

The operation was carried out in a hospital in Mumbai. Mary Kom underwent surgery today in Mumbai for an ACL damage to her knee, Chhote Lal Yadav, Mary Kom's coach informed who spoke to PTI.


The 39-year-old was injured and missed the CWG, where she had become the first Indian woman boxer to win a gold medal in 2018. The multiple-time Asian Championship gold medalist had last competed in the pre-quarterfinals in the Tokyo Olympics.
