Assam crime case rise: 22,039 against women; 5,350 cases against children recorded
Guwahati: Throughout January 1 and September 30, 2021, a total of 22,039 crime cases against women and 5,350 crime cases against children were reported across the state. In addition, 770 murder cases have been reported. Assam was at the top of the list of crimes against women in the country in 2020. A total record of 21,914 crimes against women were reported that year. According to Assam Police data, there has recently been an increase in similar incidents in the state.
In 2020, the crime rate against women in Assam was 154.30 per lakh, compared to 56.5 per lakh. Similarly, the graph of murder cases had risen since 2016, when 1,149 such instances were reported. In total, 1,145 murder cases were reported in 2017, 1,274 in 2018, 1,242 in 2019, and 1,237 in the state during the COVID-induced lockdown period.
