Guwahati: An elderly couple was brutally bludgeoned to death, allegedly by robbers who barged into their house on Tuesday. The deceased couple identified as Noni Gopal Baruah (87) and Mina Baruah (76) who were residents of Guwahati’s Chandan Nagar area, survey in Beltola.

Police suspect that the robbers broke into the house through a window in the early hours and killed the couple with sharp weapons in their bedroom, they said.

A CID team along with forensic team visited the house along with sniffer dogs and found the bodies of the couple lying in a pool of blood in their bedroom.

As per reports, the couple has two daughters who live outside the state of Assam.

Local media reports suggest that the caretaker of the couple went into the house to serve breakfast to the duo. On finding the elderly couple not responding to his calls, he alerted the police.

'We have brought the caretaker of the couple and his wife to the police station for questioning. We are investigating all angles and it is too early to speculate anything,” a police officer said.

''We are trying to ascertain if any valuables or cash is missing from the house,'' he added.

Meanwhile, the police have begun their investigation into the case
