Guwahati: The Assam Government will pay one-time financial assistance of 2.5 lakh to the widows who had lost their husbands due to Covid-19 from the Chief Minister Relief Fund.

However, the financial assistance will be provided only to those beneficiaries whose family annual income is less than 5 lakh, as well as the widows of government servants, are exempted from this scheme as they get the family pension as per usual government norms.

The beneficiaries of ‘Orunadoi’ and ‘Widow Pension’ schemes are also eligible for the new scheme i.e. ‘Chief Minister’s Covid-19 Widows Support Scheme’.

Chief Minister took to Twitter and said, “Many precious lives were lost due to #COVID19, leaving a number of families in distress. In our sincere effort to provide some relief to women whose husbands died of the disease, Rs 2.5 lakh will be given to such eligible widows as one time grant."

The Deputy Commissioner will compile the list of eligible beneficiaries from the NHM database of covid victims. The final list will be made keeping in mind all the eligibility criteria. Any covid victims beneficiaries who meet all the eligibility but is not part of the final list can submit representation with supporting documents to the DC concerned in the districts.

As per the report of the National Health Mission (NHM) bulletin, a total of 4,403 persons have died in Assam due to COVID-19. However, the NHM bulletin also said that 1,347 more COVID-19 patients have died, but the government's Death Audit Board has not included them in the tally of deaths caused by the virus as the covid patients had other ailments too.
