Digital Desk: Two senior officers from Assam have been dispatched to conduct rescue operations for the state's students who have been stranded in flood-devastated Sikkim.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma informed this on Friday.

According to CM, 160 students have been left stranded in Sikkim's Rongpo and Majitar areas.

Taking to X, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Due to the situation in Sikkim, we have dispatched two senior officers to oversee the evacuation of our 160 students from Rongpo and Majitar as soon as possible.

According to allegations that surfaced earlier today, a youth from Assam went missing in Sikkim. As per reports, the missing youth has been identified as Hiren Deuri (29). Hiren left Gangtok for Lachung on October 2. He has been untraceable since he arrived at Lachung.

On the other hand, Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang expressed his gratitude to the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the selfless volunteers who showed an exemplary level of humanity and dedication at this time of need.

Earlier today, he also visited several areas near Singtam and Rangpo. He carried out an in-depth analysis of the disaster's damage in the presence of concerned officials.

Additionally, he spoke with many victims who had been moved into different accommodations, inquired about their well-being, and personally assured them of all the support the state government could provide. To help the impacted people and their families, relief supplies were also distributed.
