Digital Desk: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday at Shah's residence in Delhi.

During the meeting the Assam CM discussed the roadmap for the complete withdrawal of the AFSPA (Armed Forces Special Powers Act) from the state, he informed via X.

This comes after CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated during his Independence Day speech on August 15 that the AFSPA would be completely removed from Assam.

Taking to social media platform X (Twitter), CM Sarma said, "I met Hon’ble Union Home Minister @AmitShah ji at his residence today to discuss the roadmap for the complete withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Assam. The Government of Assam will take further steps based on the suggestions of Hon’ble Home Minister."


It should be mentioned that the AFSPA had previously been repealed in some districts of Assam due to improved law and order. Sarma praised this action, highlighting the state's progress in maintaining peace as a historic milestone.

In his remarks, CM Sarma also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's national leadership for the extraordinary development of the Northeast. His address emphasized a dual commitment to upholding security while promoting regional and educational progress.
