In a significant breakthrough, the Ernakulam rural police have apprehended the alleged mastermind behind a large-scale heroin trafficking network operating between Assam and Kerala. The accused, identified as a 38-year-old native of Nagaon in Assam, was arrested by a special investigation team led by the Ernakulam rural district police chief.
According to investigators, the accused had been living in Kerala for nearly a decade and had initially worked in plywood factories before venturing into the scrap business. He allegedly later shifted his focus to heroin trafficking, adopting a lavish lifestyle and frequently travelling between Assam and Kochi by air. Reports suggest that he sourced heroin from Assam at a relatively low cost and sold it in Kerala at a significant profit.
The arrest is linked to the seizure of a substantial quantity of heroin, valued at several lakh rupees, from three migrant workers earlier this month. The accused allegedly repackaged the narcotic into small bottles and sold them at a lower price point, making it more accessible to a wider market.
