Digital Desk: The entire Sivasagar region is in deep mourning following the tragic demise of Ramen Baruah (Lalit), a brave Border Security Force (BSF) jawan who lost his life while on duty in Ladakh.

On the night of April 18, the 34-year-old soldier succumbed to extreme weather conditions during heavy snowfall while performing his duties.

A resident of Jarabari village under the Gaurisagar Police Station, Ramen Baruah was the third son of Kamal Baruah and Konmai Baruah.

He joined the BSF in 2013 and after a long tenure in Rajasthan, had been stationed in Ladakh for the past six months.

His mortal remains were brought to Guwahati via a special flight before being transported to his ancestral home this morning.

A sea of people gathered to pay their final respects, with villagers raising slogans of honour and escorting the martyr with traditional rituals.

The atmosphere was heavy with emotions as hundreds of people assembled at his residence to bid a tearful farewell to Ramen Baruah.

The last rites were performed with full military honours by the Sivasagar district administration along with a contingent of 149 BSF personnel.

In a heartbreaking turn of events, he had recently informed his family that he would return home on leave on May 4, but that hope remained unfulfilled.

The sacrifice of this brave soldier has left a profound void in Jarabari village, as the community stands united in mourning a son who gave his life in service to the nation.
