For the first time in the history of local polls in Assam, electronic voting machines have been employed in the Municipal election.

Digital Desk: As Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal voted in a voting booth station in Dibrugarh district on Sunday during Assam Municipal Election, he expressed belief in the victory of Bharatiya Janata Party nominees in the continuing Municipal Corporation polls in Assam. "The public is pleased with the Central government's development measures, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. As a result, people are eager to vote in Municipal polls for the BJP," stated Assam's former chief minister, Sarbananda Sonowal. Assam is holding Municipal Election for 80 local boards with 977 constituencies across the state. Over 16 lakh electors, including 8.32 lakh men, 8.41 lakh women, and 17 transgender people, will determine the fate of 2,532 contenders. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has the most candidates (825), followed by the Congress (706), as well as the BJP's associate party Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) with 243.
