Digital Desk: Assam Police has announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for any concrete information regarding individuals involved in a plot to carry out bombings across the state on Independence Day.

In a social media post on Friday, the police called for public support in the ongoing investigation, particularly in connection with bomb-like devices planted by the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA).

“We request public support for information in the ongoing investigation on Bomb like devices planted by ULFA. Credible information on persons involved in making, transporting, and planting of these devices is requested,” the post stated.

The post requested information on those responsible for making, transporting, and planting these devices. To facilitate the submission of leads, the police have provided a WhatsApp number, +91 91 326 997 35, and encouraged people to send direct messages through the official social media channels of Assam Police. The authorities assured that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.

In response to the threat, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the recovery of bombs at four locations in Guwahati. This SIT will be led by the Joint Commissioner of Police.

Another SIT, headed by the Additional SP (Crime), will oversee investigations into bomb recoveries elsewhere in Assam, with a team scheduled to visit Upper Assam on Saturday.

A high-level meeting was convened by Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Pratap Singh today in response to the bomb threat. The meeting, held at the office of the Commissioner of Police, included top officials such as Special DGP Harmeet Singh and IGP Partha Sarathi Mahanta, as well as officers from STF, CID, and the special branch of Assam Police.
