Digital Desk: As stated by DGP GP Singh, Assam police has initiated a state-wide drive to engage with family members of ULFA cadres and assist them in reintegrating their children into society.
He stated that the cooperative initiative of the Assam police, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), and the Indian Army intends to build peace and reconciliation throughout the region.
"From conflict to collaboration: A trust-building initiative for a peaceful future," Singh wrote on X on Saturday, posting photos of ULFA cadres' families conversing with security officials in several areas.
Families of ULFA cadres are welcomed to the army or central armed police force camps or police stations under the initiative for "trust-building and to assist them in bringing their children into the mainstream," according to the DGP.
"The initiative of inviting families of ULFA cadres for trust-building activities holds immense potential to promote peace and reconciliation in the region," he told reporters.
Building trust and understanding is one of the program's goals.
"The initiative aims to bridge the gap between the security forces and the families of ULFA cadres, creating a foundation of mutual respect and understanding," Singh stated in a press release.
"The overall goal is to promote peace and reconciliation in the region, paving the way for a more harmonious and peaceful future." @adgpi and @assampolice @CMOfficeAssam Initiative," he said.
On November 16, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that 8,756 insurgents from various organisations have been rehabilitated across the state in the last two years.
The National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) had the most cadres, with 4,203, followed by 1,926 from various Karbi militant organisations and 1,182 from various Adivasi extremist groups.
They obtained skill development training through the surrender-cum-rehabilitation policy and the 'Swavalamban' initiative, and are now living a respectable life, according to a previous post on X by Sarma.
