Digital Desk: A youth from Cachar district has been arrested by the Assam Police for using AI technology to create and circulate obscene images of a woman after she rejected his marriage proposal.
The accused, identified as Ripon Nath, is a cook employed by a Hyderabad-based company and hails from the Ratabari Bhetarband area.
According to the police, Nath initially obtained the woman's phone number and proposed marriage to her.
After being rejected, he created a fake Facebook account and used AI tools to generate distorted and explicit images of the woman, which he subsequently shared online.
This act of revenge led the victim to prolonged online harassment.
Based on a written complaint filed by the victim, a special police team led by SI Arindam Bhardwaj traced the mobile phone of the accused and conducted a raid in Hyderabad, leading to his arrest.
During preliminary interrogation, Nath confessed that his intention was to blackmail the victim.
Further investigation revealed that he had similarly harassed two to three other women.
The police have raised concerns about the increasing misuse of AI technology in cybercrimes and urged people to remain vigilant against such malicious activities.
