Guwahati: Giving a major boost to the agricultural sector of Assam a batch of Fresh ‘Burmese Grapes’ locally known as ‘Leteku’ was air-shipped from Guwahati Airport to Dubai via Delhi on Saturday.
Collected and packed at Assam’s Darrang district, the Consignment was exported by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
Earlier, also APEDA has been carrying out such activities to boost the agricultural sector of the Northeast.
Moreover, this is the first batch to be sent to the Middle East by the Central government agency.
APEDA Chairman M Angamuthu said, “The fruit makes a very pretty sight hanging in bunches all along with the bark and the branches like tree ornaments. It is rich in vitamin C and iron. It is available in the northeast but we knew little that it could be exported. With this first shipment, APEDA plans to promote more such medicinal and exotic fruits of the northeast.”
Further, the Chairman added that anyone knowing about its health benefits will surely love to consume it. There are abundant exotic fruits in the northeast with immense nutritional values but these are little known even in the other Indian States.
