New Delhi: The Ministry of Civil Aviation has granted permission for the airlines to operate with the capacity of 85% of their pre-covid capacity on domestic flights.
According to the ministry's order, the carriers have been operating 72.5 percent of their pre-Covid domestic flights since August 12.
The present order shall be applicable from September 18 until further notice, stated the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
In an official notification issued on Saturday, the ministry announced the decision was taken following a review of the current status of scheduled domestic services viz-a-viz passenger need for air travel.
"After review of the current status of scheduled domestic operations viz-a-viz passenger demand for air travel in terms of the purpose specified in the initial order dated May 21, 2020, condition laid down in para 2 of the order dated May 21, 2020, as last amended on dated August 12, 2021, is further modified as under: 72.5 per cent capacity may be read as 85 per cent capacity," the order stated.
When the government had resumed the scheduled domestic flights on May 25 last year following a two-month break, the ministry had granted the carriers to work not more than 33 percent of their pre-Covid domestic services. The percentage was steadily extended to 80 percent by December.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has increased the scheduled international passenger flights limitation until September 30.
