release comes under the provisions of CRPC 41, under which police can release a person without a court order

Digital Desk: In a recent development in the ongoing investigation into the altercation at the ECHO pub in Basistha, Guwahati, police have released three of the accused individuals. The trio, identified as Krishanu Lahkar, Ankur Dutta, and Debkant Dev Nath, were released during the night following their arrest on Sunday.

According to reports, the release comes under the provisions of CRPC 41, under which police can release a person without a court order.

According to sources, after arresting the trio, police checked the CCTV footage of the bar where the alleged incident occurred. Upon reviewing the footage, they did not find any incriminating evidence or information against the trio. As a result, the police decided to release them. This action was taken because the evidence from the CCTV footage did not support the initial suspicion or allegation against the trio.

Krishanu and Ankur are noted as custodians of the ECHO bar, where the incident took place.

The incident involved a confrontation between a police officer, Pradeep Basumatary, and patrons of the establishment, leading to a brutal assault on the officer. Evidence collected from the scene includes mobile phones and dustbins.

Basumatary was reportedly subjected to a brutal assault during the incident.
