Initial reports suggest that Officer Basumatary was responding to complaints of disturbances at the bar when the situation escalated

Digital Desk: Guwahati Police have taken five individuals into custody, including two actresses, in connection with the recent altercation at the ECHO pub in Basistha. The incident involved a confrontation between a police officer, Pradeep Basumatary, and patrons of the establishment, leading to a brutal assault on the officer. Evidence collected from the scene includes mobile phones and dustbins.

Initial reports suggest that Officer Basumatary was responding to complaints of disturbances at the bar when the situation escalated into physical violence. He was subjected to a vicious assault, with perpetrators even attempting to set him on fire by dousing him in diesel.

Three cases have been filed at the Basistha police station regarding the attack, one of which was lodged by the officer's wife. Additionally, another case filed by Mayuri Gautam alleges ill-treatment against Officer Basumatary.

Further complicating the situation, an FIR filed by SI Ranjan Roy highlights the obstruction faced by responding officers upon reaching the scene in the early morning hours.

The apprehended individuals, Ankur Dutta, Debakanta Dev Nath, and Krishanu Lahkar, along with actresses Mayuri Gautam and Korobi Sarma, are currently under investigation. CCTV footage from the ECHO bar is being scrutinised as part of the ongoing probe, overseen by the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the East Police District.
