Digital Desk: Devajit Saikia, Secretary of BCCI, today has clearly stated that Indian teams will not be missing this year’s Asia Cup and Women’s First Class Tournament because of any issues with Pakistan. It was reported that the BCCI told the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) it was making this decision due to problems from neighboring countries. Still, Saikia described these ideas as speculations, saying the BCCI has made no decision or addressed the topic with the ACC.
Saikia stated that since morning, it has been observed that some news have stated the BCCI is not participating in the Asia Cup and Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Such reports are not based on facts. These ACC events have not yet been discussed or resolved by the BCCI so far.
The BCCI is prioritizing the Indian Premier League at this time and is also planning for the England series, both teams will play. He made it clear that the Asia Cup or any other ACC business has not been raised in any meetings. She said that any changes in the organization of ACC events would be first shared through the media.
India decided against traveling to Pakistan to take part in the Asia Cup, which it is organizing and defending, in 2023. Because of these situations, India played their games in Sri Lanka. Previously, in this year’s Champions Trophy, India played in Dubai instead of Pakistan.
Mohsin Naqvi is currently the head of the ACC, and he also holds the post of interior minister in Pakistan. He was appointed after Shammi Silva, President of Sri Lanka Cricket, left the position.
