Digital Desk: The Assam Police has filed a case against Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and its organizer for allegedly violating the state government's guidelines regarding the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra route in Assam on Thursday.
According to the police, the rally organisers allegedly deviated from its permitted route inside Jorhat Town and the march took a different route which led to a chaotic situation.
Police further said that the organizer KB Byjiu and others, allegedly provoked the crowd to break traffic barricades and assaulted the on-duty police officers.
On the other hand, the senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that there were no violations of route guidelines and blamed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma that he was trying to stop people from joining the yatra.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi refused to comment on the FIR as the Yatra entered its sixth day on Friday. Rahul Gandhi alongside other members took a ferry to the largest river island, Majuli, Assam.
The yatra will continue till January 25 and it will travel 833 km across 17 districts in Assam.
The Yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi, commenced from Manipur on January 14 and will conclude on March 20 in Mumbai. Overall, the Yatra will cover 6,713 km in 67 days while passing through 110 districts in 15 states.
