Digital Desk: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), Assam, has arrested Nagib Khan, Superintendent of Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs in Sivasagar, on charges of accepting a bribe of ₹8,000.
The arrest took place during a trap operation conducted at the office of the District Commissioner, Sivasagar. According to the complaint, Khan had initially demanded ₹20,000 to process bills related to the transportation and distribution of rice for a cooperative society. After negotiation, the amount was reduced to Rs 8,000. The complainant did not want to surrender, and they turned to the DVAC, which acted as a consequence.
Khan was red-handed in his office chamber after he had taken the bribe. The tainted money was five or ten seized at the moment in the presence of the independent witnesses. Upon clear evidences, Khan was arrested and a case was filed under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) at the ACB Police Station (Case No. 50/2025).
Following the arrest, a large team of police officers raided Khan’s residence in Nagaon, located near the Sadar Police Station. The raid lasted several hours , was aimed at uncovering further evidence of long-standing corrupt practices.
The investigation remains ongoing, with legal proceedings underway as the DVAC intensifies its probe into the case. Authorities are expected to question more individuals connected to the matter in the coming days.
