The left-leaning opposition parties strongly object to the BJP's implementation of the CAA, viewing it as a form of discrimination, and it is included in their election campaign this year.

Digital Desk: The first 14 persons in New Delhi received certificates under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 on Wednesday from Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla.

In the process, migrants who are persecuted for being non-Muslims—Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh—will be granted Indian nationality.

Following the online processing of applications via a dedicated portal, the first certificates were distributed.

While the CAA was passed in December 2019, the regulations that allowed for the granting of citizenship were not released until March 11 of this year, resulting in a nearly four-year wait.

The Act's implementation is a major election platform for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, which is holding the Lok Sabha elections at this time.
