Digital Desk: For the time being, Indians should contact the embassy in Beijing since Shanghai, China's financial hub, remains closed due to a surge in Covid cases. According to a statement released on Wednesday, consular services in the Chinese financial hub are "inaccessible" for the time being.

 

 A consular notice from the Consulate General of India stated that it would remain inaccessible and would no longer be able to offer consular services in person. Due to the fact that Shanghai remains sealed and controlled to varying degrees by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the Consulate General of India will remain inaccessible and not be able to provide consular services in person.

 

Indian citizens may contact the embassy for a consular emergency at these numbers: 8618930314575/18317160736.

Additionally, the notice stated that Indian citizens living in eastern China may apply for urgent consular assistance at the Embassy of India, Beijing. There is also enclosed herewith a set of guidelines for applicants seeking consular service at the Embassy of India, Beijing."


 it is recommended that applicants read the guidelines before starting the actual application process. If an applicant is unable to present the documents in person at the Embassy of India, Beijing, they may designate any representative with an authorization letter to pay the fee and get the Consular/Passport Services availed of by the Embassy," it added.
