Former minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed told a gathering in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, on Sunday that things will change this month and pledged to "end the imported government"

Digital Desk: On Sunday, Imran Khan's fans rallied around the country after he lost a no-trust vote against his administration in Pakistan's National Assembly and was dismissed as prime minister.

At one such demonstration, Pakistan's former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed spoke to the crowd when they began chanting "Chowkidar chor hai" (the watchman is a thief). The phrase appears to be directed at the Pakistan Army for allegedly stealing Imran Khan's mandate.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed swiftly begged the audience not to yell such chants, emphasising that they would "fight with peace."

The Indian National Congress previously used the slogan 'Chowkidar chor hai' in their campaign for India's 2019 Lok Sabha election. In reality, Rahul Gandhi was charged with contempt of court in 2019 after incorrectly attributing the words to the Supreme Court. After he apologised wholeheartedly, the court dismissed the case against him.

Former minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed told a gathering in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, on Sunday that things will change this month and pledged to "end the imported government" that had replaced Imran Khan's rule.

In addition, he announced a 'jail bharo' (volunteer arrests) initiative in support of Imran Khan.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed referred to the erstwhile Opposition as criminals and robbers for moving the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan.

Finally, referring to the midnight no-trust vote, he said, "If you want to save your country, then don't take a decision in the dark of night but in daylight."
