Digital Desk : On July 25, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stones for a ₹65 crore administrative complex at the CM Secretariat premises in Maijan, Dibrugarh. The ambitious project will help in strengthening the governance infrastructure in the Upper Assam and Goal in this regard is to move towards the vision of the state that envisages the making of Dibrugarh the second capital of Assam.


The upcoming complex will include a dedicated Ministers’ Office, blocks for the Chief Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary, and a modern Convention Centre. It shall be built next to the current CM Secretariat, and it will have a new entrance to enhance its accessibility and efficiency.


The overall development spans approximately 1,73,729 Sq Ft and this will include Plot 1 and Plot 2 (7,780 Sq m and 8,360 Sq. m respectively). The project is slated for completion within two years.


Addressing the event, CM Sarma highlighted the role of decentralised administration in timely service delivery and good governance. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to creating modern, future-ready infrastructure to meet the needs of a rapidly growing Assam.


The foundation stone-laying ceremony was attended by several key ministers and dignitaries Medical Education & Research Minister Prasanta Phukan, Industries & Commerce Minister Bimal Borah, Transport Minister and Dibrugarh Guardian Minister Jogen Mohan, and MLAs Taranga Gogoi, Chakradhar Gogoi, Suren Phukan, Binod Hazarika, and Terash Gowala.


The project is likely to improve the administrative capacity in Upper Assam significantly and foster promptness in carrying out developmental activities within the region.
