Digital Desk: Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently made headlines for his explosive interview, made Instagram history on November 21 as he became the first sportsperson to reach 500 million followers on Instagram. One of the world's most popular athletes, Ronaldo, reached the milestone on Monday.
Ronaldo is also one of the highest-paid athletes on Instagram. Apart from Instagram, Ronaldo is highly popular on other social media platforms. He has over 105 million followers on Twitter and over 154 million followers on Facebook. After Ronaldo, other athletes with a large fan base on Instagram include Lionel Messi, Virat Kohli, Neymar, and LeBron James.
Earlier, in an explosive interview, Ronaldo stated that he feels "betrayed" by the club for attempting to drive him out of the team. In his interview, the Portuguese star also stated that he had "no regard" for Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag because he "doesn't show respect for me."
Ronaldo, who re-joined United in August 2021 and finished as their top scorer in all competitions last season with 24 goals, said, "I don't have respect for him because he doesn't show respect for me. If you don't have respect for me, I'm never gonna have respect for you."
In response to Ronaldo's interview, Manchester United stated that they have begun taking "necessary steps."
"Manchester United has taken proper action in reaction to Cristiano Ronaldo's recent media interview. We will not make any additional comments until the process is completed," the club said.
