Digital Desk: Commercial flight operations at Gujarat's Jamnagar airport will be suspended until Friday as a precautionary measure ahead of the landfall of Cyclone Biparjoy.

According to the Jamnagar airport director, the airport released a NOTAM for three days, from Wednesday to Friday. In addition, diesel and petrol required for operating the airport in an emergency have been stocked.

Air India and Star Air's scheduled flights have been cancelled, according to NOTAM. NOTAM stands for "Notice to Airmen," and it is issued at the airport for flights arriving from outside.

Also, there are no aeroplanes in the airport's parking area. Cyclone Biparjoy, which is currently forming in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Gujarat, is expected to make landfall later today.

Earlier today, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the cyclone was travelling north-northeastwards towards the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts and was about 180 km from Jakhau port. By tonight, it will have passed through Jakhau Port (Gujarat).

Coastal districts such as Porbandar and Dwarka may experience heavy winds and very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, and high tides may be seen on the Gujarat coasts.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed in Gujarat on Wednesday. The teams are working hard to safely evacuate people and animals from low-lying coastal areas.

If the need arises, the Indian Army is also ready to provide relief and resources to affected areas.
