Digital Desk: The Dalai Lama, Tibet's spiritual leader, has contributed Rs 10 lakh to the flood-ravaged state of Sikkim.

A donation of Rs 10 lakh was provided through the Dalai Lama Trust for relief and rescue efforts, according to the letter.

In response to the Dalai Lama's generous donation, Chief Minister Tamang stated, "On behalf of the people of Sikkim and our government, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to His Holiness for his gracious sentiments and generous support during this time of adversity. His Holiness' heartfelt concerns and prayers have deeply impacted us. The Dalai Lama's gesture comes after severe floods devastated the Himalayan state, wreaking havoc on infrastructure and connections throughout the region.

The flash flood was caused by an outburst of Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim in the early hours of October 4, causing high inflow into the Teesta River.

Bridges, parts of NH10, small towns, and infrastructure in Sikkim's Teesta River Valley were extensively damaged as a result of the flash flood.
