Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad are clogged by pollution as air quality worsens due to increased stubble burning...

Digital Desk:  The air in Delhi enters the 'severely poor' category in the winter due to a variety of causes such as farmers burning crop residues, low wind speeds, and the use of firecrackers during festivals.

According to studies conducted by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, the city's air pollution peaks between 1-15 November, when the number of stubble-burning incidents in nearby states of Punjab and Haryana increases.

Due to rising pollution levels, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has declared that all government and basic schools in the city will be closed on Friday and Saturday.

The Delhi government has prohibited non-essential construction activities as well as the operation of BS-3 petrol and BS-4 diesel vehicles in the Delhi Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Budh Nagar areas.

The total AQI in Delhi was in the severe category on Friday morning, with Lodhi Road at 438, Jahangirpuri at 491, RK Puram at 486, and the area around IGI Airport (T3) at 473.

The government will enhance the frequency of mechanised road cleaning and provide daily water-sprinkling as well as dust-suppressive medications.

The environment minister of Delhi has convened an emergency meeting to assess the situation. The capital is one of the most polluted cities in the world.
