New Delhi: Hindu Raksha Dal Chief Pinky Chaudhary has been sent to 14-day custody by a Delhi Court in connection with hate slogans raised at an event in Jantar Mantar last month.

The police moved an application seeking his remand and Metropolitan Magistrate Prayank Nayak Thursday remanded Chaudhary in judicial custody.

During the court hearing, Chaudhary told the court that he was not mistreated in police custody. The court remanded him to judicial custody and noted that the allegations against the accused were serious.

Many supporters of Chaudhary accompanied him when he surrendered on Tuesday and was later taken to Connaught Place police station, where he was arrested.

On 13 August, three men arrested for raising anti-muslim slogans at Jantar Mantar were denied bail observing that their “scathing remarks” were “undemocratic and uncalled from a citizen of this country”.

On 11 August, Supreme Court Lawyer and former BJP spokesperson, Ashwini Upadhyay, the organizer of Sunday’s protest against “colonial-era-laws” at Jantar Mantar was granted bail.
