Guwahati: Assam's ongoing flood crisis escalated recently with the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) issuing a critical public advisory for residents near the Dhansiri (South) River in Golaghat district. The warning comes as the river’s water level continues its upward trend, prompting concerns for public safety in the region.

In its latest directive, the state disaster management body urged citizens residing along the riverbanks and adjacent low-lying areas to exercise extreme caution. They were specifically advised to refrain from venturing close to the river until the water levels recede and the situation stabilises. "Due to the continuous increase in the water level of River Dhansiri (South) at Golaghat in Golaghat district of Assam, citizens are advised to stay away from the river," the authority stated in its advisory, underscoring the potential risks.

The fresh warning adds to the grim picture across Assam, where the deluge has already impacted a significant portion of the population. According to the most recent flood bulletin, over 1.68 lakh individuals across 15 districts remain affected. The disaster has spread across 481 villages within 39 revenue circles, disrupting daily life and livelihoods.

Beyond human displacement, the agricultural sector has also borne a heavy brunt. More than 14,382 hectares of valuable agricultural land currently lie submerged, severely hindering farming activities and raising concerns about food security in the affected districts. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with further updates expected as the dynamic flood situation evolves.
