Digital Desk: A team from the Chhattisgarh Police, currently in Guwahati for an investigation, has been detained by Dispur Police following allegation of extortion and illegal confinement.
The Raipur-based team reportedly detained an individual and demanded a ransom for his release. The victim was held until the demanded amount was paid.
Dispur Police launched a rescue operation, successfully freed the individual, and recovered the extorted cash.
Investigations revealed that the Chhattisgarh Police had failed to inform local police before conducting operations in Guwahati, a standard legal protocol.
This follows a suspicious incident a few days prior, where Dispur Police recovered cash from a Scorpio vehicle at a petrol pump in Ganeshguri.
The vehicle, which belonged to the Chhattisgarh Police, had been moving around the city for several days without the knowledge of local law enforcement.
The Chhattisgarh Police team reported to the Dispur Police Station at 10 AM today following a formal summon.
They are currently undergoing intensive questioning as the investigation into their conduct continues.
