Digital Desk: A complaint has been filed at Dispur Police Station against the family of former Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Mahanta, accusing them of mistreatment by their domestic help Dhiren Kalita.
Dhiren Kalita, who had been working at the residence since August 10 with a monthly salary of Rs 12,000, accused the family of improper treatment.
Reports suggest that the family delayed opening the door for the police, causing a nearly two-hour standoff before police personnel were able to escort Kalita out of the residence.
Kalita claimed that he was insulted for requesting leave due to a family emergency, with Mahanta's family accusing him of neglecting his duty.
The victim has also alleged that Mahanta's daughter threatened him with physical harm using footwear.
Furthermore, Kalita stated that he was not provided adequate food, being offered only two pieces of bread in the morning. He was reportedly ridiculed as belonging to a beggar's caste by Mahanta's wife and daughter.
On Monday, Kalita said he survived the entire day at Mahanta's residence with just tea while continuing his work.
The mistreatment allegedly extended beyond Kalita, as other household staff, including the cook, were subjected to poor behaviour by the family.
Late at night, Dispur police conducted a health check-up for Kalita before allowing him to leave. Kalita's family has filed an official complaint against Mahanta's household at the Dispur police station.
The police are currently investigating the allegations, with Dhiren Kalita reportedly informing authorities about the abuse he endured.
