Digital Desk: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test-fired its New Generation Ballistic Missile Agni Prime from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha on Wednesday.

The test flight was completed at around 7:30 p.m. on the Odisha coast. All of the missile's objectives were successfully demonstrated during the flight test.

The Agni Prime missile successfully tested-fired in the first pre-induction night launch conducted by the users after performing well in three development trials. The test flight validated the system's accuracy and dependability. The missile's successful test flight has opened the door to its entry into the armed forces.

"First Pre Induction night launch of New Generation Ballistic Missile Agni Prime was successfully conducted off the coast of Odisha on 07 June 2023," tweeted DRDO.

At various sites, range instrumentation like radar, telemetry, and electro-optical tracking systems were also set up. The tracking systems were installed on two downrange ships at the terminal site to gather flight data covering the complete trajectory of the vehicle, the statement said.

The ballistic missile test flight was carried out in the presence of senior officials from the DRDO and the Strategic Forces Command. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO and the Armed Forces for their success and the Agni Prime missile's flawless performance.

The Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO, Dr. Samir V Kamat, also praised the DRDO team for their efforts in making the test flight a success.
